Welcome to Year One!
Here you will find all of the relevant and up to date information about your child's journey as they start Key Stage One!
Welcome to Year 1, the first step into Key Stage One!
Your teacher is Miss Whitehead. Your teaching assistant is Miss Horton. We have lots of exciting topics and activities planned throughout the year.
During the Summer term we are investigating habitats at the coastline in our Geography topic, with an exciting trip to North Landing in Flamborough. In RE we will be introducing the children to the religion Judaism and exploring the important events that occur alongside. In Music children will be using their knowledge of beat and rhythm to compose their own musical pieces using the glockenspiels. Our Maths focus will be on time, height and length, money and capacity with a continued focus on number bonds, doubles and halves and multiplication of the 2, 5 and 10's. Literacy time will be spent on a new text each week, focussing more now on adding adjectives and noun phrases into their writing and looking more into the audience and purpose of a text.
In June 2024, Y1 children will sit the National Phonics Screening Test.
You will receive information regarding this throughout the year but please do not worry; your child will be prepared and familiar with the test.
